In the continuing wave of vintage, the Aviator 8 collection reinterprets replica Breitling’s early pilot’s watches without simply copying them. In this in-depth review of our October 2020 issue, we observe how the latest Aviator 8 model, the B01 Chronograph Mosquito, keeps up with the trends in modern everyday life.
Just as gusts of wind sometimes transition into storms, the Breitling Aviator 8 family of timepieces has undergone many changes. The collection was launched in early 2018 as the Navitimer 8 and has since transformed into the Aviator 8, albeit without making much of a splash. The move now appears to be complete – the new collection reflects fake Breitling’s long history with aviation.
The “mushroom” chronograph pushers are also quite historic, as is the fluted crown, another Navitimer feature. The column wheel control gives the chronograph pushers a firm and very smooth pressure point. The screw-down replica Rolex is quite difficult to release and secure but is easy to pull out to a different operating position.
The fluted bi-directional rotating bezel turns smoothly and is quite different from the Navitimer, with a smooth downward sloping top, white hour markers and numerals, and red reference points. The grooved section continues the sharp conical downward slope, in contrast to the Navitimer, where the raised section is not exactly parallel to the grooves. the Mosquito bezel ring is also coated with ADLC, which, unlike the more anthracite-colored DLC coating used by Breitling for many years, turns a deep, dark black.

The minute track on the edge of the dial is based on the original reference 634, with triangular markers pointing inwards every five minutes, extended lines for minutes, and thinner line markers for fractions of a second. The three silvered sub-dials and the numbering on the bezel can also be found in these early models.

What we are going to talk about here is a totally exact re-edition of a Breitling Navitimer from 1959. This is barely a fake watch with vintage cues or a design that was inspired by something from the past – it’s pretty similar to a carbon copy. The design of the traditional Navitimer is bound to be familiar to many of the people reading this site. It’s iconic among pilot’s replica watches for its design, which combines a chronograph with a rotating slide rule bezel, a scale that can be used by pilots to manually compute various useful calculations for things like fuel consumption. 
Details that can be traced to the original include the plexiglass crystal and continue right down to the number of beads found on the watch’s beaded bezel. The exact number of these beads, which are there for easy gripping of the bezel and operation of the slide rule, varied considerably from reference to reference all the year-round, with as many as 125 in the 1950s and as few as 93 in 1960.
The new movement Breitling replica has drawn on to power the Navitimer Re-Edition is the caliber B09, a hand-wound COSC-rated chronograph. Since this is a re-edition of a watch that predates the advent of the automatic chronograph, a hand-wound in-house movement like this one seems like a logical choice, and actually, this is a caliber that Breitling has made specifically to power the historically influenced re-edition. 
It bears repeating that this new watch is practically a facsimile of the original from 1959. Actually, Breitling says that the only concessions to modernity that the current watch makes are its increased water resistance and the use of Superluminova instead of radium. The back of the replica watch is even closed, a period-correct connection to vintage watches that most companies can’t resist breaking in the course of making vintage homages.
I’ve always been in love with the Navitimer. The dial, while undeniably busy, draws me in each time I encounter it, and I find myself wondering why I don’t own one. This is an amazing modern take on a classic vintage watch, and I have to say that the popular replica Breitling will easily find homes for the 1,959 examples of the Re-Edition model that they are making. There’s really nothing to complain about this watch, aside perhaps from the fact that it is essentially a reproduction of a product that already exists – but that’s also the reason so many people are going to love it.

Recently I found on my story about the top ten ladies’ watches of BaselWorld 2018, one of the reader comments was critical of the bling factor in some of my choices. But the fact was that some women watch aficionados who are familiar with men would rather have great men watch. What’s more, the Breitling Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 does fit for men or his female friends. It is a scaled-down, slightly redesigned version of iconic men watch from Breitling with a great movement, a sporty look, and vintage style which are not seen often on a ladies’ watch.  
The new style of Breitling has been rolled out over the past several months carefully by new CEO Georges Kern and CVC Capital Partners, but not including a new ladies’ collection. However, the first smaller versions of the redesigned men models were included. The Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 was inspired by a Navitimer from the 1950s called the Reference 66, a three-hand watch. The absence of chronograph sub-dials makes the dial cleaner than the modern Navitimer, but the inclusion of a slide rule makes it less than the much-lauded Navitimer 8 which was introduced in the fall. In my opinion, the beaded bezel which is somewhat decorative takes the edge off the technical look of the slide rule and the red-tipped second’s hand. Also, the watch contains the Breitling automatic Caliber 17 (an ETA 2824-2 base) with COSC chronometer certification and a 40-hour power reserve.
To revamp the Breitling collection better, Kern brought in Guy Bove, who, as creative director at Chopard for the past 10 years, played an important role in launching that company’s L.U.C collection of premium replica watches with in-house movements. Before that, he worked for Kern for six years at IWC, a higher-end, yet less visible sports watch brand owned by the Richemont Group. Bove’s brief was to update Breitling’s line, including make it more cleaner and modern designs, also have to take inspiration from the archives (Breitling was founded in 1884). “The idea is not to remake old watches again,” says Bove. “I see it more as taking raw ingredients from older models and using them in new recipes.” Not all of those ingredients are cut. When Breitling introduced the Navitimer 8 without the slide rule fans were shocked, a defining feature since the 1950s. The inspiration for this new design was from onboard-chronographs produced by Breitling in the 1930s and 1940s, an era before slide rules.
The Navitimer 1 Automatic 38mm size is a sweet spot that works for both men and women, and brands are increasingly putting out unisex fake watches in that size. Another great one that comes to mind is the 38mm Panerai Luminor Due, introduced in January at SIHH. By the way, when I returned from the jewelry shows in Las Vegas, I found the same trend of jewelry. I saw a lot of rings, bracelets, and pendants that could work for also are intended to be worn by either women or men. This unisex trend appeals to what is being described as the “more gender-fluid” millennial generation, but even those who are older and don’t identify with that definition or with millennials at all can find a lot to appreciate in the unisex concept, especially those women who love men watches crazily. 
The Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 has a date window at 6 o’clock, a really nice extra function for an everyday watch. The dial on the steel model is either black or blue, with matching alligator straps with sporty white topstitching. There is also a steel version with an 18k red gold bezel and a beige dial with a brown alligator strap. The beaded bezel in gold and applied gold markers make it look like a completely different replica watch, in all it is more beautiful than previous Navitimers, despite the slide rule. In fact, I think it’s about as dressy as what most women really want in a day watch. Compared with other brands, it’s really possible to make a ladies’ watch without over-identifying it by layering mother-of-pearl, diamonds, flowers, or colored straps.
For the price, the Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 is priced at $4,860 with a steel case with a blue or black dial on a steel bracelet; $4,310 with a steel case, blue dial, and blue or black alligator strap; $6,360 with a steel and gold case and silver dial on a steel bracelet; and $5,820 with a steel and gold case, silver dial and a gold alligator strap. The rose gold model seems particularly feminine, especially on a bracelet, which is a model I would feel comfortable while wearing day and night. Generally, I feel that replica Breitling is really on the right track with its ladies’ pieces, researching and designing them with a unisex appeal by heart all the way. Sometimes a ladies-only collection is marginalized, but that isn’t likely to happen here. From this brand, keep to concern it and you’ll get more surprise on this way if you are fond of the unisex watch.

The new stainless steel Breitling Chronomat B01 Chronograph 44 has a satin-brushed finish instead of a polished one from its case to its Pilot link bracelet. This choice in finishing makes this swiss replica watches more stealth than showy. On the other hand, as its name implies, the Chronomat B01 Chronograph 44 keeps on with the 44mm sized case—which is not small by any means, particularly when you consider the 16.95mm thickness of the case. 
The 2018 Breitling Chronomat is provided with a choice of two dial colors. Those three dials display the small seconds, the 30-minute counter and 12-hour chronograph indicator, as well as the familiar date window discreetly placed in between 4 and 5 o’clock.

At the heart of the new Chronomat is Breitling’s in-house B01 Caliber automatic movement operating at a rate of 28,800 beats per hour and offering a 70-hour power reserve. Although the B01 Caliber isn’t new to the Chronomat collection, this COSC-certified manufacture movement is a big draw when used in Breitling’s chronographs. While this chronograph is certainly pretty, we still have our hearts set on the replica Rolex Daytona RBOW that came out earlier this year, but back to the Breitling replica.
As a robust tool watch, the Chronomat B01 Chronograph 44 is water-resistant to an impressive 500 meters. There’s plenty of lume on the dial for visibility in low light and the unidirectional rotating bezel does not include numerals, but instead the characteristic rider tabs in addition to one luminous dot at 12 o’clock. Of course, protecting the dial is scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, while the caseback is solid.
Of course, the Breitling hasn’t reinvented the wheel with this new Chonomat chronograph. However, what the brand has done is take the already very famous Chronomat chronograph replica watch and toned it down with some subtle design options.
